Danedar Sooji Ka Halwa
Grainy Navratri special semolina halwa with almonds
Danedar sooji halwa — semolina slow-roasted in desi ghee until light brown, cooked with brown sugar and water for a textured, nutty halwa ideal for Navratri prasad.
Ingredients
Main
- 1 cup sooji (semolina)
- ½ cup desi ghee
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup sliced almonds
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Roast sooji. Melt ghee; roast sooji on low until light brown, 20–25 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Toast almonds. Add almonds; roast 3 minutes more.
- Finish. Add water and brown sugar; stir until water is absorbed and halwa thickens. Serve hot.
Pro tip: Roast to light brown, not dark — that's the key to danedar texture and prasad-worthy flavour.
The Story Behind This Dish
Coarse, grainy sooji halwa is offered as bhog during Navratri — the long roast in ghee is an act of patience and devotion in many households.
