Roasted Masala Peanuts
Crispy besan-coated spiced peanuts — chai-time namkeen
Masala peanuts — peanuts coated in besan, rice flour, and spices, then oven-roasted or air-fried until crunchy. A healthy-ish Diwali and Navratri snack.
Ingredients
Main
- 1 cup raw peanuts
- ¼ cup besan (plus 1 tbsp if needed)
- 2 tbsp rice flour or cornstarch
- ½ tsp red chilli powder
- ½ tsp chaat masala or amchur (optional)
- ⅛ tsp turmeric (optional)
- ½ tsp ajwain
- ⅓ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- Curry leaves or mint, finely chopped (1 sprig)
- 1 tbsp oil (for roasting)
Instructions
- Coat. Toss peanuts with pastes, flours, and spices until evenly coated.
- Roast. Spread on a tray; bake at 180°C (or air-fry), stirring, until crisp and golden.
Pro tip: Separate peanuts on the tray so they roast individually — clumps stay soft inside.
The Story Behind This Dish
Spiced peanuts are modern Diwali faral alongside mathri and chivda — crunch and heat that pair perfectly with masala chai when guests visit.
