Badam Milk (Almond Milk Drink)
Traditional saffron-cardamom almond milk
Badam milk — whole milk simmered with ground almonds, brown sugar, cardamom, and saffron. Served warm or chilled as a nourishing Indian drink.
Ingredients
Main
- 1 litre whole milk
- 2 tbsp brown sugar (or to taste)
- 1 tsp green cardamom powder
- A few saffron strands
- ¼ cup blanched almonds, ground to a paste
Instructions
- Simmer. Bring milk to a boil; add almond paste, sugar, cardamom, and saffron. Simmer 5–8 minutes.
- Serve. Serve warm or chilled, stirring before pouring.
Pro tip: Grind almonds with a little milk for a silky paste that won't separate in the pot.
The Story Behind This Dish
Badam milk appears in Indian and Middle Eastern traditions for centuries — valued as a strengthening, festive drink for weddings, winters, and Diwali gatherings.
